Within Temptation teamed up with Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner for the third single of their highly anticipated album ‘Hdyra’.
‘Hydra’ goes from strength to strength with ‘Whole World Is Watching’, featuring Soul Asylum’s golden-voiced singer Dave Pirner. “I remember when I first heard the song ‘Runaway Train’,” recalls Sharon. “I was travelling through India and I saw the video on MTV Asia. Dave’s voice and lyrics just blew me away! The impact of that song with the images of India never left me. When we wrote ‘Whole World Is Watching’, Dave was at the top of our list. He has such a captivating voice: it made the song exactly how it needed to be. It’s about overcoming setbacks in life: after all, those are what create you. It feels as if the whole world is with you when these things happen. It’s an optimistic song, but dramatic at the same time.”

I am only 12 years old. I have loved Within Temptation for as long as I can remember, their songs Frozen, Memories, and Bittersweet hit so close to home it is difficult to imagine. This band has gotten me through so many hard times that I can hardly count. I have been depressed for a while, this band connects me with my mom over a long distance and helps me accept the fact she isn't here. For years I've wanted to talk to this band.. I've never had money to see a concert, my dad and stepmom hate this band, but I am literally on of their biggest fans. I'm not the fan girl type either, just that this band means so much to me and I would give anything to talk to them. thank you Within Temptation! P.S. I

+Breanna Nienau Within Temptation has been in my entire life too and in 14. I have been depressed and whenever I feel sad I always listen to them too. Somewhere, Mother Earth, and Never-Ending Story are some of my most played songs. I also just got introduced to Nightwish by my dad. You should also listen to Evanescence they are pretty similar but are still awesome! Stay Strong!

Just listened to this and the one featuring Piotr Rogucki at the same time. It was pretty epic. Dave and Piotr actually complement each other quite well as they have difference vocal ranges.
I just did the same thing and I'm convinced they should've released one version of the song with both guest singers.

This version with Dave Pirner , by far is the best version of this song in my opinion , and the reason being the harmony of the two comes together so perfectly its hard to tell where Sharon leaves off and Dave kicks in. Its a amazing team of vocalists they blend so well and the chemistry in this video is strong, and the point well made to the message delivered. You rarely see two strong vocalists like this come together in such a beautiful harmonic tones, but these two compliment each other well.. kudos to both of you on this.

I like to hear Utopia and this song back to back. It's like they deliver the same message, and they're both the softer, more uplifting song at the end of the album, like on purpose we're to finish our music listening sessions with these messages.
WT are still a great band for me and have developed in a different direction over the past couple of albums. It's still Sharon's incredible voice that gives the song strength and most of the songs imo. I like that each album is different, I don't think they are a 'pop band'.

I would think the WT fans are musically advanced enough to be able to appreciate the evolution of a band this talented! C'mon guys, I know they make some questionable decisions regarding a track here and there, but you have to do that, to push your boundaries. I don't need 6 albums that sound exactly alike, y'know?
This song speaks to me on so many levels. I saw the band live, and it was one of the best days of my life. I cried through pretty much the entire set, but most of all this song (which they did acoustically). It was so beautiful, uplifting and motivational, and I owe so much to this band.
I met Sharon after the gig, hugged her and told her she was the reason I sang, the reason I was still here. It was such a phenomenal night, and it's one that I'll never forget. They tell you not to met your idols to avoid disappointment, but I can tell you now, I felt absolutely nothing but pride and positivity when I met mine. A beautiful woman, both inside out, with a fabulous band behind her.
I cannot thank this band enough for what they have done for me.
This sing is about as good as it gets. Her voice is haunting and mesmerizing.

Duety nigdy dobrze nie wychodzą, jak głosy się nie zlewają, lub jak jeden wokal nie przenika przez drugi lub dosłownie miażdży tamten. Tu mamy jeden z przykładów. I choć Piotrkowi przydałoby się jeszcze kilka sesji z lektorem angielskiego to jego głos świetnie zlewa się z Sharon.

I have been a true fan of the band since Mother Earth/Ice Queen days and it truly makes me wonder how it's possible for me to fall in love again and again, with theses guys/gal, album after album without this love/feeling ever waning. Anyway enough about me....the one word that screams at me when I hear/see this is "BEAUTIFUL" it fits all elements of this gift to us. Thank you and I know for sure I'll be watching.
For some reason this music video makes me cry. I love the message that it has. You can overcome anything. It reminds me of my own struggles to school. This is how we can overcome anything in there what it is. I showed this to a friend of mine who is a paraplegic. This song in music video absolutely change his life. He said to me "if you would never show me that video I would probably be on the streets drinking right now".
Can we stop comparing Dave and Piotr and focus on that how beautiful Sharon is?

Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal/rock band founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon Den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Their music is described as symphonic metal, although their earlier material, such as Enter, was gothic metal. In an interview, den Adel said they fell into asymphonic rock genre with various influences. In a later interview with 3VOOR12, den Adel stated that "we consider ourselves more a symphonic rock band ... we are in my opinion no gothic band". Their sixth studio album, Hydra, will be released on January 21, 2014. The album features guest appearances from Tarja Turunen, who appears in the lead single "Paradise (What About Us?)", Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum and American rapper Xzibit.

I think after having heard this sing dozens of thousands of old WT fans stopped to listen to this band. This amazing song could possibly be sung by Madonna or Britney Spears and nothing would change.

Every time I watch/listen to this, I cry. It's as if it was written for me. Wish my recovery took the length of the song. By far, this is my favorite song.

To all those thinking of leaving WT behind, this IS WT! This IS Sharon using her beautiful voice the best way she knows how! Yes, Within Temptation has that semi-gothic, metal, hardcore side to it, but it also has something that continues to stand out in whatever they choose to perform: SYMPHONICS! THAT'S what got me into the genre in the first place....and no matter what, WT's GOT IT, and they'll ALWAYS HAVE IT!
If they dont like where WT is going I wont ask them to change. As long as they just leave I have no problem with that, however if they start to hate on the band because they personally dont like them I can dislike that.
For you guys who does that.
If you are going to post something like this " WT SUCKS AND IS JUST POP" well dont. If you dont like it just stop listening and go to whatever you do otherwise, WT wont change just because you write some bad words on RUclips and unless you get some good points in why you dont like them(as in the points actually make sense) just dont write anything at all.
@paecmaker 9 years later I sadly have to admit that I have to agree with those who don't like the new WT route. We awaited Shed my Skin for years and it isn't even comparable to albums like Hydra, let go The Silent Force which is a giant (and, for me, unarrivable) masterpiece. And please don't take me wrong: I didn't dislike Hydra, and Whole World is Watching is tears material years and years after the release... but yeah Shed my Skin is nothing comparable.

I absolutely love this track. Dave's voice just fits perfectly with Sharon here and the end result is beautiful. I know recent output from the band has divided opinion but to me this is one of their finest moments and Sharon can make any song listenable with that soaring voice. Stunning!!

This is song gonna be like one of those memorable singles that are still in our favorite playlists up to this day e.g. Frozen, Forgiven, All I need and so on. I'm so happy they've come back with such great music. They're such a great band, and they keep on getting better. And let's not forget the greatness that is Dave Pirner, he is a freaking legend. Once again, so so proud of calling this band one of my favorite bands of all time, they never fail me. Long live Sharon's beautiful voice.

Love this song. I have suffered from depression and a serious lack of self esteem almost my whole life but in recent years I have decided to fight it so I can be better father and husband. I use to take drugs, smoke and drink stupidly. Now I compete in triathlons. This song is all about feeling like you have been defeated but some how finding a way to believe in yourself so you can somehow win through. Cause your born to live, and fight it all the way.
